Continuations

Course continuation is a feature that helps you maintain steady enrollment in your courses while reducing administrative work. This feature lets you automatically manage enrollment in subsequent courses.

Course continuation makes it possible to:

  • Maintain stable enrollment numbers across course series
  • Reduce administrative work when transferring participants to new courses

How continuation works

Continuation uses an automatic enrollment with opt-out model. This means that participants are automatically continued to the next course unless they actively opt out by the deadline.

Note: There is also an optional enrollment (opt-in) model, but this is rarely used in practice as it requires active action from participants and regular invitations are a full alternative.

Setting up continuation

Configuring settings in the course template

When creating a course template, you configure the following continuation settings:

  1. Continuation Type

    • Select automatic continuation (opt-out) - recommended for most use cases
  2. Deadline Settings

    • Set a deadline for when participants can opt out (e.g., "5 days after course end" or "2 days before course end")
  3. Opt-out Method

    • Button in app (default and recommended): Participants can opt out directly via their dashboard at any time
    • Email: Participants must send opt-out requests to your specified email address. You must then manually confirm the opt-out request.

Using continuation in practice

Step 0: Participants can opt out in advance

If "Button in app" is selected as the opt-out method (this is the default), participants can go into the app at any time and opt out of future courses. If they have done so, it will be shown on the participant profile that they should not be continued.

Step 1: Create the next course

Before you can continue participants, you must first create the next course in the series. You cannot start the continuation process before this is done.

Step 2: Connect participants to the next course

From the continuation tab in the active course:

  1. Select "Connect next course"
  2. You can connect participants either:
    • Individually: If participants have different prices or price categories
    • All at once: If everyone should have the same price for the next course
  3. Select which course the participants should be continued to

Important: Nothing happens automatically when you connect the next course. You can change your mind and modify the course after this step.

Step 3: Transfer participants

  1. Select "Transfer multiple" (or "Transfer next course" on each participant if connecting individually)
  2. Select all participants you want to transfer on "Include"
  3. When you transfer, the following happens:
    • Participants are moved to the "Pending enrollment" section of the next course
    • A communication is sent out reminding them of the deadline to opt out
  4. You can also enable "Allow participant to opt out with a button in the communication" to let participants opt out directly from the email they receive

Step 4: Finalize enrollment

  1. Participants will remain under "Pending enrollment" on the next course until their deadline expires
  2. After the deadline has expired, click "Finalize" to complete the enrollment
  3. Participants are now officially enrolled in the course

Setting deadlines

  • Set deadlines that give participants enough time to make an informed decision
  • Consider your planning needs when setting deadlines
  • Adjust deadlines to your administrative schedule

Communication

  • Be clear about continuation terms when participants first enroll
  • Maintain clear communication about any changes in course plans or terms
  • Use "Button in app" as the opt-out method for the easiest user experience

Prices and price categories

  • If all participants should have the same price for the next course, you can connect them all at once
  • If participants have different prices, connect them individually to select the correct price category

Important notes

  • Course continuation is optional and can be enabled or disabled per course series
  • Orders are automatically created for continued enrollments, but payments must be handled separately
  • Participants can always contact you directly regarding their enrollment status
  • Participants who opt out via the app will be marked, and you can see this before transferring them
