Continuations
Course continuation is a feature that helps you maintain steady enrollment in your courses while reducing administrative work. This feature lets you automatically manage enrollment in subsequent courses.
Course continuation makes it possible to:
- Maintain stable enrollment numbers across course series
- Reduce administrative work when transferring participants to new courses
- Provide a seamless experience for participants continuing their learning journey
Types of Continuation
Automatic Continuation (Opt-out)
In this model, participants are automatically enrolled in the next course unless they actively choose not to participate.
- Participants are automatically enrolled if they don't opt out by the deadline
- You set a deadline for when participants can opt out
- The terms include information about when they must opt out
Optional Continuation (Opt-in)
This model requires participants to actively accept an invitation to join the next course.
- Participants receive an invitation to join the next course
- They must actively accept the invitation by the specified deadline
- No automatic enrollment occurs without the participant's approval
- Important: Opt-in invitations do not reserve spots in the course
Using Continuation in the System
Creating Course Templates
When creating a template, you'll configure the following continuation settings when creating a course sale:
-
Continuation Type
- Choose between automatic (opt-out) or optional (opt-in)
-
Deadline Settings
- For opt-out, the deadline for when they can opt out
- Set relative to the course (e.g., "5 days after course end" or "2 days before course end")
-
Opt-out Method (only for automatic continuation)
- Button in app: Participants can opt out directly via the dashboard
- Email: Participants must send opt-out requests to your specified email address
Managing Continuation in Active Courses
A Continuation tab appears in courses where continuation is enabled. Once you've created the next course in the series, you'll connect and transfer participants from here.
Connecting to the next course in the series
- You can connect all participants simultaneously or individually
- When connecting individually, you can see information about current enrollment such as price category. If you use different prices, you should connect individually.
Transferring participants to the next course
- When transferring participants, you'll see deadlines for participants to opt out for opt-out continuations. You can change this if necessary.
- You can choose which channels should be used for communication. You can also skip sending communication.
Best Practices
Setting Deadlines
- Set deadlines that give participants enough time to make an informed decision
- Consider your planning needs when setting deadlines
- Adjust deadlines to your administrative schedule
Communication
- Be clear about continuation terms when participants first enroll
- Maintain clear communication about any changes in course plans or terms
Important Notes
- Course continuation is optional and can be enabled or disabled per course series
- Orders are automatically created for continued enrollments, but payments must be handled separately
- Participants can always contact you directly regarding their enrollment status
- Opt-in invitations don't guarantee a spot in the course - participants must accept the invitation before the spot is secured
